Welcome to Lake Winnipesaukee!

Fabulous weekend.  It was so relaxing and we are so blessed to have such wonderful friends.

We have dear friends we spend a weekend with at least every 6 months.  They live about an hour and a half north from us in an area of NH that is referred to as the Lakes Regions.  We also share memorable vacations together (way beyond NH). 

NH Lakes Region.....




From what I have learned from fellow bloggers not from this area, they have never seen foliage.  This is the real deal and it always takes my breath away each year.

 A little NH info....there are 273 lakes and ponds in the Lakes Region alone. The largest lakes in the region include Lake Winnipesaukee (72 square miles), with more than 200 miles of shoreline and 274 habitable islands; Squam Lake, where “On Golden Pond” was filmed; and Lake Winnisquam, Newfound Lake and Ossipee Lake. The smallest is Duncan Lake (114 acres). source 

Lake Winnipesaukee is located in the Lakes Region of NH at the foothills of the White Mountains. Lake Winnipesaukee is the largest lake in the state at 72 square miles. Surrounded by three mountain ranges, the wooded shoreline and crystal clear water of this spring-fed lake.

There are many villages on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee that can be accessed by boat or by car. Each is unique. Weirs Beach has arcades and boardwalks, waterslides, a public beach and an activity center. Meredith is a restored mill village, where you can browse through antique, art and craft galleries. Wolfeboro is a picture perfect village, right down to its historic Main Street. Center Harbor, Moultonborough, Tuftonboro, Alton, Gilford and Laconia all have their own special flavor. All communities have public parks and docks, and feature varied activities such as fireworks displays and band concerts throughout the year.

Lake Winnepesaukee can become quite busy in the summer with many sail boats, water skiers, water pontoons, speed boats....you name it.  So come visit!!

Our friends live right on the lake 12 months out of the year (many just have summer cottages).

Their house is what is referred to as an Adirondack ....which refers to an architectural style generally associated with the Great Camps within the Adirondack Mountains area in New York. The builders of these camps used native building materials and sited their buildings within an irregular wooded landscape. These camps for the wealthy were built to provide a primitive, rustic appearance while avoiding the problems of in-shipping materials from elsewhere.

I can attest to the beauty of this style home, especially when on a boat looking onto shore and seeing how well they incorporate themselves into the landscape.

This print is a view of the Pemigewasset Valley.  This gorgeous photo on canvas was recently purchased and delivered by the photographer/artist himself.   How wonderful for the artist to actually see where his work will be displayed.  This work of art is so full of color.  The artist has only created 3 canvases of this photo.
