Piano Lessons

I am so excited!  Today I start piano lessons!!  Me!  I have never played an instrument in my life.

We have a gorgeous 9 foot concert piano in our home.  Right now Gary is the only real player in the family.   He is classically trained from The New England Conservatory School of Music.   Because of that and his continued love of playing, his music is beautiful.

I have been wanting to learn something new and sort of push the boundaries a bit and one day as I was thinking about window treatments while standing in the piano room, it dawned on me--why not put this baby to good use and learn how to play her.

My music teacher arrives this evening at 6:30.  I feel like a first grader!

Here are a few shots of our piano from a few weeks ago getting a 4 hour tune-up from our piano tuner (need a good piano tuner, we can hook you up!).    Our piano was stored while we were living in our 'transition' home so she needed a lot of love and attention when we finally got her back.

Finger prints on the side....tsk tsk

This is so fascinating to me.

Piano Tuner at work.  Sort of reminded me of a mad scientist.  He was so focused and detail oriented.
We know our piano is in good hands with him.

See?  Naked windows in that room still.
That is Gary playing.  He looks like a mad scientist as well :-)
My cousin's daughter by Gary's side.  She has been taking lessons and plays very well.

She is such a sweetie.

Well, wish me luck!
I'd love comments (below).

    1. Hi Loi,
Well I survived my first lesson and it was actually fun. I like my teacher and that is half the battle. This is the music room but just a little corner of it. It has a gorgeous bow window with stained glass on one wall and an enormous pocket door with exquisite woodwork on another wall. We recently had it painted from a baby blue (prior owner) to a much deeper wedgewood blue and it turned out gorgeous. I have finally settled on a seamstress I trust to make my window treatments and I actually think I have even settled on the look I am going for!
      Stay tuned :-)

  3. What an inspiration! I have been toying with the idea of picking up the violin again but I keep making excuses as to why I shouldn't. Maybe we can do our first recital together? LOL!

    1. Andie,
This is a huge departure for me so it will be fun to see how I take to it (I tend to be a 'tad' impatient!)
I'll agree to a recital with you if we can do it from your lovely home!!
      Thanks for stopping in.

  5. My grandmother started piano lessons in her 70's and loved it! You are never too old to learn, and it actually keeps you young!

  7. That thirty minutes of practice every single day...they're dead serious about that. Stick with it, and you'll learn to love your time on the keys. Cherry Kay

  8. Perseverance is key; everyone I know who ever took lessons and quit always regrets doing so. Wanting it is half the battle and remember a thousand mile journey begins with the first step.
