Daffodil Days

Have you heard of Daffodil Days?

You can give hope to people facing cancer and save lives by supporting the American Cancer Society Daffodil Days program.
Adorable baby
Each Daffodil Days participant has the opportunity to donate a Gift of Hope in any denomination. A Gift of Hope donation funds cancer research, educational programs, advocacy, services for cancer patients and their families, and furthers the mission of the American Cancer Society. The Gift of Hope also enables your American Cancer Society to deliver flowers anonymously to cancer patients at medical centers and facilities in your community. Gifts of Hope are not delivered to specific cancer patients, nor are the donor's name attached to the gift.

Look how happy he is!!
You have the option of having the daffodils delivered to you or to cancer patients.  If they are delivered to you, the money spent is donated to the American Cancer Society.

Check out the American Cancer Society Daffodils Days site and maybe you can make someone smile today, even yourself!

Look how pretty daffodils are...

The Little Cubicle That Could

For about 8 months out of the year I work pretty much from home, the other 4 months I need to be in the office to assist in managing a project that we have every year.  Right now I am in the first month of those 4 months.  My 'office' is a cubicle and I DETEST cubicles.  Look how ugly they are!

U-G-L-I-E-R

This is exactly how I feel!
So I decided it was about time I made my digs a little more inviting.  I have fallen in love with the color aqua and have none in my house.  I love fru fru lampshades and have none in my house.  Sooooo my new digs have both.  Check it out!

Coffee Filter Lampshade tutorial here.

I know, I know this chair cover is a bit frumpy.
The color (which does not show in the pic) is a
brilliant aqua.  And let's face it folks, this is my cubicle
at work.  I'm not going to have it slipcovered.  Not gonna
spend a dime on it, not gonna do it!

See how I put an aqua piece of paper on each pile of paper?
Some would call that coocoo.  I'll let you be the judge:-)

I found some cool aqua contact paper.
I know, I rock!!

See those?...aqua scissors!  I just stumbled upon these in one of my draws.
The cubicle Gods were with me that day.

Oh I'm not done.  I have a few more ideas.  I'll keep you posted because I know you are all wishing you could spend 8 hours a day 5 days a week in my cubicle.

I love, love, love comments.  They make my day :-)

A Little About Me!

Ok, I am totally stealing this idea from Tina over at The Enchanted Home.   Before I tell you what I am stealing, let me tell you that you absolutely must check out her blog.  She has included all of her readers in her adventures of building her dream home.  Here is a glimpse of that said dream home that she just moved into:

Kitchen!

Imagine opening your bedroom door in the morning and seeing this when you shuffle along to get your morning cup of jo!

I want this marble floor one day!

Anyway, Tina has a spectacular blog that is very interactive.  Once you get there, remember you are not allowed to forget about little ol' me and my blog :-)

So Tina is participating in a sort of 'tag you're it' blog game with other bloggers and I thought it would be fun to start my own tag team.  I will be sending my list of questions to bloggers I have met, or love to read.  My 'rules' will be a little different but the premise is the same.
I will answer all the questions first and then tag a few other bloggers in hopes it will continue so others can share information about themselves.

1. What is your day job?
I am a nurse and I work in the clinical quality department of a large healthcare company.  About 8 months out of the year I work pretty much from home.  The remaining months I am in the office assisting with managing a gargantuan project that occurs each year at the same time (right now actually--ugh).
I am also a mom, fiance/lover to a wonderful man, cook, cleaner (those of you who know me-stop snickering over the cleaner remark!), carpooler, thrifter, crafter, dog owner to the cutest bully in the world.

Albert

2. Why did you start blogging?
I have always enjoyed anything having to do with domestic bliss;  DIYng, crafting, cooking, entertaining....
Domestic bliss: Perry Farrell and his wife Etty Farrell lounge around in their new Los Angeles home
This is me on a typical Saturday morning
So this was a natural place for me to express myself and journal my domestic experiences.  My very first post talks about how I discovered home decor blogs.  Check it out here.

3. What is the best thing that has come from blogging?
Relaxation!  I find that creating my posts is a great way for me to relax and relieve stress.  That in itself is so satisfying.
I have really pushed myself in the computer technology area as a result creating and maintaining my blog.  I am so proud of what I have been able to do.  My oldest son has been a wonderful help and was very instrumental in me getting this off the ground.
Another 'best thing' about blogging is participating in all the invaluable education that is out there on these types of blogs.  I am constantly flabergasted by all of the incredible talent out there and the willingness to share ideas.
The blog community is a great place to be.  Very good company!

4. What's playing on your iPod?
First off, I love music.  I have it on all the time.  Always on in my house even when we are not home (keeps Albert company he's been known to bust a move).  At the office I have Pandora on all day.
Let's see.....The Killers, Aerosmith, Tony Bennett duets, Amy Winehouse, Kings of Leon, Adelle, Neil Diamond, Lena Del Ray, anything from the 70s, Paul McCartney, on and on.  Favorite song of all time is Brandy by Looking Glass.

My favorite song right now .....

Video Games by Lana Del Rey

5. Who would you most like to meet?
I can't narrow it down to one.  Let's see I would like Will Farrell as my next door neighbor,  I would like to meet Oprah, Ellen Degeneres, President Bush Senior, President Bill Clinton, Steve Jobs (may he rest in peace), Bill Gates, Pablo Picasso, many more.

6. Best childhood memory?
My grandparents and then later my parents owned beach cottages on the coast here in the east.  There were 5 of them all together and nothing but wonderful fun things happened when I was there.  All my parent's closest friends would go on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend and it was just so much fun to look around at any and every given moment and see people you love.  The memories of those many years and summers fill my heart with joy.

7. How do you spend your days off?
G-man and I love our time off and often plan entire day outings exploring thrift shops, antique shops, we enjoy walking Boston, Portsmouth, Newburyport, Newport....  We also spend a lot of time with family.
If I am alone, I love to spend time reading through blogs, crafting and pampering myself.  In the summer I hit the salon at least once a week for a pedicure!  My big indulgence.

8. If you could choose a place to visit for 3 weeks, where would that be?
Definitely Greece (despite all their economic turmoil) and Italy.

9. What is your favorite meal?
Anything with pasta, olive oil, cheese and basil.  If they have these ingredients then my brain is screaming "get in ma belly!"

10. If you could give advice to a new blogger, what would that be?
Learn from other blogs and bloggers, don't compare.
Have fun!!

Ralph Gets Lillie Some Tulips

For those of you who haven't yet met Ralph and Lillie, here they are..

Ralph is on the left and Lillie is on the right.  They hang out in my kitchen and have a tough time with change.  We do our best to keep them happy.

Ralph was very pleased with me today and that means Lillie was pleased with Ralph.
Try to follow along folks.

You see, I have about 5000 people coming to my house tomorrow.  Today was a crazy busy day getting ready, buying food, preparing, cleaning, pinterest once in a while for fun :-)  The weather has been phenomenal so I wanted to be sure to pick up some tulips.  I wanted white and luckily found them on the first try.

Somewhere in my travels years ago I came across two identical vases that I fell head over heals for.  I loved their color, texture and most of all their shape.  I know nothing about them however I think they may be a type of Italian pottery.  They do have markings on the bottom that I'll show in one of my pics.  If anyone knows anything about them or has some insight, I would love to hear from you.

Here they are:

They are a wonderful shade of yellow

The markings aren't very clear in the pic

So, back to Ralph and Lillie.  Lillie loves getting flowers and actually
thinks these are hers and Ralph  takes all the credit.
Yup, I do all work and he takes all the credit.  Men!

I try to remove most of the leaves.  I like to see just the tulips,
not a bunch of leaves.

Stuff the vases with floral foam

Naked tulip

Ralph said they look a little drunk.  Lillie shushed him and said they were lovely.

No Lillie, you can not eat the moss.

They flank my kitchen sink perfectly every time.  I just love them.

I think Ralph's getting lucky tonight.
